Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp combines more than just two worlds - the remote and wild game viewing experience of Botswana’s lush grasslands offsets the intricate detail of the hidden world of the Delta’s waterways, while the simplicity of canvas merges with the elegance of an exclusive club.

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp is situated on the lush banks of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. The wildlife concession in which the camp is situated on 7,000 hectares of exquisite landscape on the western border of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve.

Tucked under a canopy of massive ebony trees, Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp reveals the splendour and variety of the Okavango in all its glory. Sheltered by dense forest thickets, yet opening up onto wide, expansive views over lagoons and channels, the Camp showcases the best of what the Delta has to offer. Nine exclusive tented suites are strung out on either side of the camp's handsome thatched guest areas.

Raised on wooden platforms, the spacious tented suites let in the sights and sounds of the African bush. Escape the heat of the day with a dip in the pool or take in the sun on the broad viewing deck looking out over reeds and floodplains. Cowhide rugs on the floors and chocolate tones warm and gratify, while large spinning fans keep the heat at bay. A large ensuite shower with burnished teak floorboards refreshes and renews, while private wooden decks invite you to contemplate the water’s edge.

Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp offers memorable dining experiences, topped off by indulgent fireside facilities. While enjoying al fresco cuisine, guests are able to take in the fantastic views of the floodplain and the gorgeous display of the Okavango Delta. Dining experiences range from bush picnics, breakfast in bed, sundowners on one of the islands, or a hearty picnic at the end of a walking safari. Many would probably call Nxabega 'glamping'. In fact, the better way to think of Nxabega is like a small boutique hotel whose walls happen to be made of canvas and whose halls happen to be occupied...More

Tucked under a canopy of massive ebony trees, Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp reveals the splendour and variety of the Okavango in all its glory. Cowhide rugs on the floors and chocolate tones warm and gratify, while large spinning fans keep the heat at bay. A large ensuite shower with burnished teak floorboards refreshes and renews, while private wooden decks invite you to contemplate the water’s edge.

The nine East African-style safari tents are on raised wooden platforms with private decks overlooking a floodplain. All tents have an ensuite shower and w.c, and are elegantly furnished with wardrobes, luggage racks, chairs, dressing tables and bedside tables.

Tents are each placed 20m apart, you have both comfort and privacy. Each tent is situated on a raised teak platform and includes a private balcony and an en suite bathroom, which features a flush toilet, large shower and a well-lit vanity. Tents balance practical elements – fans, safes and hairdryers – with the romantic – mottled cowhide rugs, hand-hewn furniture and softly glowing lanterns.

The nine large en-suite tented chalets at Nxabega Camp are linked by a sandy path through the bush. Each tented chalet is built on a raised wooden platform and has a small veranda, where two directors’ chairs and a table overlook the permanent floodplain. From the outside, the tents look a little worn and faded, but it’s the thoughtful touches inside that make them, together with beds we wished we could take home with us. Every chalet has a dedicated member of staff who does the housekeeping, looks after individual guests during their stay, and quite often also helps with waiter service at meal times.

A wooden door replaces the usual zipped entrance, leading into a spacious interior with wall-to-wall sisal matting. The three-quarter-size twin beds can be converted to a king-size bed when required, and are covered with good-quality white linen, down duvets and pillows.

Furnishing each chalet are a tall, slender chest of drawers (ours had a few handles missing!), and a luggage rack. A selection of nibbles in sealable jars – biltong, jellybeans and peanuts on our last visit – sits on a wooden writing table with a mirror. There are water jugs and glasses on the bedside tables, and the small coolbox provided in each room can be filled on request with your preferred drinks. A really thoughtful touch in the heart of the bush! On the practical front, a torch is supplied, as is an emergency 'hooter' in case of emergency. Each chalet also has plug points for charging batteries, plus a universal adaptor and (unusually for a camp in Botswana) a hairdryer.

An early breakfast is served before the morning activity. This usually includes the option of cereals, fresh fruit, juice, bread and muffins with tea and coffee.

Brunch is usually eaten at individual tables on your return from the morning activity. You can usually expect an assortment of salads, a hot dish (on one occasion our team had fresh bream and bacon with a beetroot salad which they commented was really tasty), eggs if you wish, freshly baked bread and various cheeses – all presented on your own table, amounting to your own individual buffet!

Afternoon tea, served around 3.30–4.00pm, is usually a combination of a light savoury snack and some form of cake. Guest will enjoy a feast of cheese ciabatta and pastrami mini rolls, gooey chocolate brownies, fresh avocado and sliced fruit – with an option of iced coffee or tea.

The dinner menu is usually announced by the chef as everyone gathers for pre-dinner drinks – just in case there are any last-minute changes or requests to be noted. Dinner under the trees in the ‘small’ boma, thoughtfully lit with lanterns which created a magical atmosphere. There is usually a choice of two main dishes – that evening it was between kudu steak and oven-roasted bream, both served with garlic and rosemary baby potatoes and vegetables.

Thrill to an aerial view of the Okavango Delta as you soar above a vast maze of both permanent and fleeting waterways.  Fly over rivers and pools dotted with lily pads, as well as a variety of wild animals that inhabit this unique habitat.
