Our Tents: Unexpected Comforts in a Remote Wilderness Setting

Intimate in Nature

With only 20 luxury guest tents the Resort offers an exclusive and personal environment for all of our visitors.

Coastal Cascadian Cuisine

As executive chef at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort and a Vancouver Island native,Chef Ryan Orr honors the respect that the Cascadian region and its wealth of locally raised and grown products rightfully deserve.

.With its lush farmland and coastal waters,Cascadia provides Chef Orr the opportunity to source an abundance of locally grown and raised product from the region and showcase them on his menus.Whether it is locally raised meat from the farms of Vancouver Island and the Fraser Valley, wine and produce from the Okanagan,or seafood from our own front yard shores,Chef’s  commitment to eating locally and sustainable can be seen on every menu.

When dining with us at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort our quests never have to look far to trace the source of the items that comprise the magnificent meals they are enjoying ,nor will they miss the presence of Chef’s passion and commitment to our unique region.

Daily wilderness activities are highly personalized and customized based on each guest’s experience level, willingness and desires. This means no “signing up” for particular activities in advance and the ability to choose what you want to do each day. Every evening our Activities Directors will sit with you personally and design your adventures for the next day depending on weather, tidal charts, animal sightings and your willingness to go wild! As Clayoquot specializes in remote experiences, guests may choose to be taken to a pristine and secluded beach to learn how to surf, have a First Nations guide escort them on a day long hike to the “Wild Side” interpretive trail and Flores Island, take on a mountain fed rushing river in a kayak,

Horsemanship and riding are signatures of the resort, with a range of talented horses for the beginner to the expert rider. Wildlife viewing is also part of daily life, whether guests go in search of black bears and whales or see the wildlife on the outskirts of camp, kept there by a team of well trained and well loved dogs.

Fact is, we can take your leadership team almost anywhere you want to go, and they will have more fun getting there, and get greater results upon arrival, than you ever dreamed possible. We know relaxation, play, and inspiring environments are three key components of productive mental therapy. We know that in order to think outside the box, one has to get outside the box- sometimes way out. As past corporate retreat guests can attest, there is no greater incentive to exceed quota than a visit to Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. The Resort regularly hosts incentive groups from North America and Europe. Exceeding the expectations of people who expect the most is a welcome challenge to Resort staff, all of whom are trained to please. Resort management and corporate sales will present to corporate groups anywhere in the world, issuing a challenge in person, in brilliant Technicolor  . Clayoquot Wilderness Resort’s Environmental Legacy Programs are taking Green Meetings to the next level.

Wedding

Here, engagements, weddings, anniversaries and romantic rekindlings take on a spiritual quality found nowhere else in the world. The resort lends itself to intimate small and medium size weddings with two to 50 guests. We can coordinate services: planning, marriage commissioner, photographer, flowers, music, entertainment, full-service food and beverage, luxury accommodation, wilderness adventures, air transportation and ground and water transfers are all options. We have hosted some truly spectacular weddings: one on a deserted white sandy beach, several in our lush fern gardens, and others inside or on the decks and lookouts surrounding the Timber Cookhouse. More than one intensely romantic renewal of vows has happened in a great white canvas tent at the Resort. The greatest successes come at the hands of those inclined to work with our natural surroundings. Mixing old and new traditions, and combining contemporary elements with those found in nature is our specialty.

Honeymoons

What better place to begin a new life together than in the land that time forgot? Where balmy summer days and wild nights inspire romance and relaxation, and the heady rainforest air is as pure and intoxicating as new love.

The intimate scale of the resort prescribes privacy and a level of service and pampering unlike anything offered by large, all-inclusive resorts. The memories you make here are yours alone, as unique and original as your dreams, and unfolding at a pace set by you. Slip seamlessly into resort culture (visit camp culture page for details) or invite resort staff to delight and surprise you with little extras conceived for newlyweds and newly-in-loves. Consider a candlelit dinner just for two in the games tent, or a tandem massage overlooking Bedwell River. Or maybe wild strawberries and champagne arriving unannounced, or a horse drawn wagon whisking the pair of you off to a secluded beach or river valley meadow.

With relatives spread out across the continent, a get-away that includes the entire family may be just what the GP ordered. In fact, over the past three years, Clayoquot Wilderness Resort has seen a sharp increase in large family groups coming to experience the resort’s remote pleasures. With a setting described as “an upside down rainforest” by National Geographic Magazine, Clayoquot has something for every generation on the family tree.

The hotel offers a snack bar/deli. A bar/lounge is on site where guests can unwind with a drink. Guests can enjoy a complimentary breakfast. An Internet point is located on site and high-speed wireless Internet access is complimentary.

Full luxury Ensuite Bathroom , flush toilet , large indoor/outdoor shower with double shower-heads, antique dressers and tea tables, opulent rugs, oil lamps, heirloom china and silver accessories, abundance of candles complete the offering.

Our “original” Outpost deluxe guest tents are roomy, great white canvas prospector-style quarters built on discreetly-situated raised wooden platforms. All 5 Deluxe Family Tents offer a choice of one queen sized bed, plus a full sized day bed or two single beds. Private flush toilets are located just outside of each tent and a private shower in the nearby showerhouse is dedicated for each Deluxe Tent’s exclusive use

Amenities
Amenity:
Queen sized bed.

:
flush toilets, private shower.

No true safari, eco or otherwise, would be complete without at least one tent assigned to the pursuit of sensory pleasures like reading, games, lounging and select barrel-aged spirits.

The Resort has two such lounges – a lounge tent, and a games tent. The former, a plush turn-of-the-century collection of dark polished woods, beautiful fabrics and burnished leather, reference the iconic Gentlemen’s Clubs of old. Here, guests lose themselves in the arts of conversation and low-tech competition. Antique furnishings display an impressive collection of antique and contemporary games of chance and skill.

The games tent will captivate the attention of any child, young and old. A full billiards table with plush sitting area fills the busy pool tent. Antique fixtures, a game of 8 ball and you will believe that you are in a wild west setting.

Fishing

  • River Fishing

  • Ocean Fishing

The Bedwell River estuary is a marine playground for beginner and expert kayakers. Intertidal play makes for ever-changing landscapes and prolific wildlife viewingFavourite ocean kayak excursions include whale, porpoise and bear watching in nearby Warren Bay, and the day trek to Flores Island’s Wild Side First Nations Interpretive Trail, where hiking and kayaking mix along marked trails of between 5 and 12 kilometres in length. Paddle Bedwell Sound at ‘seal level’, watching for foraging bears, otters, spawning salmon, and eagle nests along the way. Ride the tide in and out of the river estuary.

Guests ride up alder alley and through lush forest to where the Bedwell and Urses rivers meet. Then, they kayak the gentle emerald shallows back down to the Outpost, starting all over again, if they wish. Experienced guides lead the way. Instruction and safety gear provided. No experience necessary.
